I am absolutely and completely in love with this series!!! I couldn't put it down once I started it and read it straight through. I didn't finish it until 3AM, but it was totally worth it!The first book was full of action to set the stage for the series. I LOVED it! Now, this second book in the series brings us the second brother and a less violent, more introspective book. Still just as wonderful as the first -- just different. The pace is just right, the characters are fully developed and the romance has the time it needs to develop -- well -- it is all JUST RIGHT!
At the end of the first book, Magnus found out that he wasn't really the bastard son of the Laird Alwyn. He was really the second son of Laird Kinkaid who was murdered (along with his wife and almost the entire clan) by the Laird Alwyn and others. That is repeated in this book as the Prologue.
Magnus has led an unhappy life because he's been miserably treated by his 'father' and 'half-brother'. Magnus has worked hard to become a warrior and has earned the respect of all of the other warriors in clan Alwyn. He's a natural leader and they follow him without question.
Upon learning of his true parentage and the treachery of Laird Alwyn, Magnus begins planning for revenge. He doesn't tell anyone -- not even his good friends. He uses his time to listen and learn whatever he can to be passed along to his brother Niall. His main goal is to manage to get a confession and to find out who the third party was in the death of his family and clan.
Tara Iverach, ward of the Earl of Buchan, has been confined to a nunnery since the death of her parents five years ago. Now, the Earl has betrothed her to Hugh, the heir to Laird Alwyn. She is to replace her sister who died mysteriously while betrothed to Hugh.
You'd think Tara would be a shy, retiring little thing after having been confined in a nunnery for five years, but she isn't. She's full of spunk and intelligence and once she's seen her new future family, she's determined to escape!
Magnus first meets Tara when her escort is attacked on the way from the nunnery to her new home with the Alwyn's. Magnus can't resist stealing a kiss from his half-brother's betrothed. Then, he can't forget her. Their attraction grows as they spend time talking through a barred window. Tara is kept locked in a tower and can't escape.
The ending was a little abrupt for me. Everything else was well paced and things had ample time to develop, but the ending just appeared. I could have been okay with that if there was an epilogue, but there wasn't. Personally, I think it should be a law that all romance novels MUST have an epilogue.
Now, I can't wait for the next book! I THINK I know who the next brother will turn out to be and I think that will turn out to make a whiz-bang ending for the series!

The Rebel of Clan Kincaid Highland Warrior Lily Blackwood 9781250084750 Books Reviews
In this second installment of Lily Blackwood’s Highland Warrior series, our hero, Magnus’s, life changes the day he finds that he’s not the bastard son of the Laird Alwyn, as he has always believed. Rather he is Faelan Braewick, the second son of the unjustly slain Laird Kinkaid. Now, his anger rules him, and he vows retribution against Alwyn, one of the men who plotted against and murdered his true family.
Tara Iverach has been cloistered at a priory since her parents’ death five years before. Her guardian, the powerful Earl of Buchan, unexpectedly appears, and her life, too, is abruptly changed. He informs her that her older sister Arabel is dead, and that she will travel to Alwyn’s castle and wed the laird’s son in her sister’s place. Tara is devastated that her only family is gone. Traveling to her new home, she chances to meet Magnus. Although the attraction between them is undeniable, he turns out to be the wrong son of Laird Alwyn.
This beautiful love story is complex and well-written. The plot twists surprise; the conflicts are real and touching. The hero and heroine both have goals to achieve that are imperative to their personal human development. But their growing love for each other threatens those objectives. One of my favorite things about Lily Blackwood’s stories is that she not only delivers a lovely, sensuous romance, but she maintains the characters’ honor while doing so. No copping out here.
Although this book is a stand-alone story unto itself, it continues the story line from The Beast of Clan Kinkaid, the first in the Kinkaid series, and I can’t wait for book three. I want to see the Kinkaids fully avenged and the three brothers whole again as a family.
This was...okay. It had potential but was slow reading. The seemingly random use of italics was very annoying as they're all over. There's the occasional wrong word, for example renting for rending. The author should brush up on her anatomy as she has the h's womb hurting and seizing during intercourse, then the H's cock going inside her womb. Uh...no. Later, on page 283 of the paperback, there's - "His sex stabbed into her." OUCH! The dialog leading up to and during the sex scene was cliché. Hugh as an antagonist character was also cliché almost to the eye-rolling point. The constant calling the clan chiefs "the Alwyn," "the Kincaid," and so on become very tiresome very quickly. Three quarters of the way through I was ready to quit although having come that far I continued and was glad to finish. All the loose ends were very quickly wrapped up in the last few pages which felt rushed. In sum, while not a bad book, I won't be reading any more by this author.
