Fans of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton Series and Johanna Lindsey’s Malory Series will love the passionate romances and gripping adventures of the League of Rogues.

The League of Rogues takes what they want—but have they taken on too much?

For too long Miss Emily Parr has been subject to the whims of her indebted uncle and the lecherous advances of his repulsive business partner. Her plan to be done with dominating men forever is simple—find herself a kind husband who will leave her to her books.

It seems an easy enough plan, until she is unexpectedly abducted by an incorrigible duke who hides a wounded spirit behind flashing green eyes.

Godric St. Laurent, Duke of Essex, spends countless nights at the club with his four best friends, and relishes the rakish reputation society has branded him with. He has no plans to marry anytime soon—if ever. But when he kidnaps an embezzler’s niece, the difficult debutante’s blend of sweetness and sharp tongue make him desperate for the one thing he swears he never wanted love.

Yet as they surrender to passion, danger lurks in Godric’s shadowed past, waiting for him to drop his guard—and rob him of the woman he can’t live without.

Warning This novel includes a lady who refuses to stay kidnapped, a devilish duke with a dark past, and an assortment of charming rogues who have no idea what they’ve gotten themselves into.

*Includes Exclusive Illustrated Scenes throughout the book!

This book was previously published by Samhain Publishing and is now re-released.

Wicked Designs The League of Rogues Book 1 edition by Lauren Smith The League of Rogues Romance eBooks

Five titled men kidnap an innocent young girl to "ruin" her in the eyes of society because her uncle cheated one of them in a business deal. Make sense? No, not really. In the beginning the heroine, Emily Parr, shows a lot of intelligence and grit and I enjoyed reading about her escape attempts. By the middle of the book she has become another dim-witted twit who doesn't know her own mind and dissolves into a puddle of lust every time Godric, the Duke who abducted her, comes near. Of course her innocence and sweetness (and her amazing beauty!) charms all these hardened rogues and they vow to protect her...while keeping her captive. At one point she is led around by a rope tied around her waist like a dog. Her dog, however, is allowed to run free. *sigh* The farther I read into this book, the more I disliked everyone in it. I resorted to skimming all the unnecessary sex scenes (the majority of the book) and it still took far too long to read. I was going to give this 2 stars, but the illustrations made me drop another star. I am deleting this book and am not reading any more of the series.

Sexual situations (many!) may offend some readers

Wicked Designs The League of Rogues Book 1 edition by Lauren Smith The League of Rogues Romance eBooks Reviews

I wanted to like this book. I really tried to get over the endless clichés (seriously, I think I read every romance cliché ever created), the distracting, unnecessary, and unattractive drawings that added nothing to the book, and the severe need for editing (grammar, words that needed to trade places, general flow and continuity issues.). But it was quite difficult.
Seriously writers, hire an editor. A GOOD one. Accept their criticism and learn. Red pen means you'll get better.

Unfortunately once you get past all that, there is only the tiniest thread of a good plot. Then we're dealing with someone who doesn't actually know much of the era she's writing about, thinks Stockholm Syndrome, near rape, touching a non-consenting unconscious person is romantic, etc.
Our heroine starts off as a bit of a bada**, she is smart and cunning, and just falls apart. Not for a strong worthy man, but for the 'damaged a*****e'. Seriously, our 'hero' is deeply damaged, and is a right b*****d. I wanted to punch him in the face myself! I know we were trying to 'fix' him (seriously, cliché central), but he never actually changed. He was still a damaged a*****e and nearly got her killed.

I am not a (insert your chosen derogatories here for too soft, PC, etc) and I do enjoy some strong alpha male types but this book was awful. The non-consensual touching added nothing to the plot. The heroine clearly had Stockholm since even the slightest niceties had her throwing herself at him and his 'rakeheck' friends while in captivity to settle a score with her only family member. The brother thing was waaaaaaay too clear, that's not foreshadowing, that's bashing it at the reader with a sledgehammer. And the 'ZOMG YOU'RE CRYING I CAN'T DO YOU CAUSE YOU'RE NOT PLAYING, OOPS!' thing? Ugh. Just no.

While I really like historical romances, especially set amongst London's Ton. This one is a hard pass. A VERY HARD PASS. I finished it, but it was like choking down liver, Brussels sprouts, and tripe all wrapped in an escargot, blood pudding, and haggis pie. If it had been well edited and not had so many of the clichés and tropes, the plot might have been slightly redeemed. Unfortunately the plot stretches the bounds of credulity, not in a good way, and can only be believed by people who think Twilight or 50 Shades is good writing. I don't think coating the manuscript in red pen would have done enough to fix this.

The most redeeming feature? It was free
To give the author her due, she gives a good depiction of what a rake truly is, as compared to the watered down seduced so often portrayed. The men in this story are d'bags of the highest order kidnappers, druggers, abusers, rapists in all but name - and that describes both villain and "heroes". (To clarify, afaik only the hero actually has sex with the heroine, but the actions of the rest are pretty telling). The abducted heroine, after fighting spiritedly to get away for five pages, finds out that her five abductors are nobles, and so relaxes, because obviously they won't murder or rape her. After that she just wants to make the hero fall in love with her and marry her, because he's sooo handsome (and a duke). It's like the author decided to write a historical version of the frat boys who rape an unconscious cheerleader, but it's okay because she's a cheerleader, drunk and dressed in a short skirt, and besides their daddies are mean to them, boohoo. DNF at 11% so as not to break my tablet throwing it against the wall!
